What Did You Say?!?

It’s that time of the year when we want our beverages to refresh us during the dog days of summer. Beer, soda, lemonade will often quench that thirst. But many also want to drink wines that refresh us during the summer, and chilled whites and roses are excellent choices.

But you know what also hits the spot in summer? It’s chillable red wines. Gasp!!! What did you say? Chill a red? I thought they had to be served at room temperature.

Let me explain. Many red wines are best at 65 to 70 degrees, but when it comes to red wines that are high acid, low tannin, and fruit forward, they are often best at 55 to 60 degrees.

Guess who makes these types of reds? We do, and so do those other wineries that focus on red varietals grown here in the Upper Midwest, like Marquette, Petite Pearl, Frontenac and Marechal Foch. These red varietals that we grow here on the Wisconsin Ledge meet those qualities of low tannin, high acid, fruit forward like no other red wines in the world.

The reason why soda and lemonade quench your thirst is because of their high acidity. Why is that? Acidic drinks give the impression of hydration long after your drink is finished, as it stimulates your salivation.

We recommend grabbing a bottle or two of Frozen Tundra Red, Marquette, Nouveau Rouge, or Red Door and putting them in the freezer for 20 minutes or the fridge for 60 minutes. These four wines are all high acid, fruit forward, low tannin wines that bring a refreshing, fruity, and thirst quenching aspect to them on a hot August day.

So, if you are looking for a satisfying reward after a long day outside this summer, join the growing number of people to pop the cork on one of these red wines and just Chill Out!
