Crafted from the Marquette grape, which we grow at our Door 44 Vineyard located in the heart of the Wisconsin Ledge AVA. This grape varietal was introduced in 2006 by the University of Minnesota and was named after the Jesuit explorer Pere Marquette, who explored our region in the 1600s. The Marquette grape has parentage in the Pinot Noir grape, and like that grape, Marquette expresses itself with a fruit forward, bright and balanced experience that has made Pinot Noir so popular. Steve believes Marquette is better than the Pinot Noirs from California.
Marquette pairs well with the rising interest in “locally grown” quality food being prepared in Door County’s finest restaurants.
