At a conference, a winemaker from Champagne, France heard Steve complain about the cool summers in WI. The French winemaker laughed when he heard this and stated, “Wisconsin summers are actually warmer than they are in Champagne.” He suggested that the winemakers of the Midwest start doing what they have done in Champagne for 100 years and make sparkling wine. This conversation ‘sparked’ Steve’s idea to make sparkling wines, and that idea has come to fruition with “Sparkler.” This rosé style sparkling wine is primarily made from the aromatic Frontenac and La Crescent grapes. Steve believes that both our sparkling wines are great examples of the potential in Wisconsin to create sparkling wines that are fresh, lively, and flavorful. It is Steve’s dream that one day sparkling wines from Wisconsin will rival those of Champagne, France.
